How to Get the Most Out of Your MFR Sessions
-
Our bodies are fluid, and, as your fascial restrictions release, your body is moving back to a more fluid state. For best results, stay hydrated by drinking water or herbal tea in the days after sessions. This simple action could make a huge difference in your pain level.
-
Each of us is unique, and our bodies require different things. However, one thing remains the same for all of us: Our bodies give us messages in the form of pain, tension, tiredness, etc. If you feel tired after a session then rest.
Notice if you have a guilty feeling when you "aren't doing anything." Remember that you ARE doing something: You are healing. Let go of any guilt and just let yourself "be."
If you feel energized, go for it with some activity, but continue checking in with your body to see if that energetic feeling remains. Sometimes clients feel great and then they overdo it.
Keep checking in with your body, at all times, and LISTEN to its important messages.
-
Emotions are energy in motion. Sometimes after a session, you might wake up and feel weepy or angry or any other emotion. Allow yourself to let these emotions come up and get big and messy, like a toddler does.
Give yourself space to cry loudly, or yell in your car when you're alone. It's okay if it doesn't make sense to you.
Just remember: feeling is healing.
-
To help deepen your treatment sessions and to expedite the healing process, participate in your self treatment — a minimum of 30 minutes a day between sessions.
The more that you treat yourself, the better your results will be. You will have a deeper understanding of what is actually causing or contributing to your pain and will be able to quickly help yourself during a painful flare of symptoms.
If you are in pain and between treatments sessions, the simplest thing that you can do is use your therapy ball for at least 10 minutes, or an hour for best results.
-
Set attainable goals and a realistic timeline for healing. Consider how long you have been experiencing the pain. If it has been many years, it will take more than a handful of treatments to be fully healed. That might freak you out to hear, and that is okay.
Please evaluate your goals and see if you can find a healthier expectation and time-frame that will not sabotage your ability to heal fully.
-
Don't panic if you feel worse before you feel better. When you receive MFR treatment, you are getting the most effective pain therapy offered. Healing is not linear, and sometimes you have to process and go through a full felt experience to get to the other side.
Instead of trying to escape what you are feeling, notice it. Experience it. Feel it and sit with it. You are not injured. The injury already occurred, and you survived. But, all day long your body and mind don't understand this on some level yet, so allow the process to happen. Feel into your pain, your fear, and your emotions that come up for you. Tell yourself that you survived and feel what that feels like. Realize that you are strong and that you are capable of healing, even if you are in pain.
Do some self-treatment. Then do something else for a while. Don't try to figure things out. The more you allow yourself to process this then the faster and easier you will start to feel your new normal.
-
Sometimes after treatment you may have felt a reclaimed sense of joy. Embrace this, and go with it.
I've had feedback from clients that their bones felt younger after a session, and, kind of out of the blue, they just felt like moving in a fun way. Play around with this.
Do you allow yourself moments of joy or play? If you don't, see if you can add that in for a few minutes at a time. Even if it feels weird at first. Have a childlike sense of wonder and experience your world with amazement and joy. See what that feels like.
Throughout our lives, we lose the ability to play because we are busy being adults. See what it feels like if you can stop, take the busy out of it, and just experience the things that bring you joy. Remember the feeling? You can enjoy your life.
